A few weeks ago somebody posted a spoiler on alt.tv.seinfeld to the season finale that aired tonight 5-17-96 on NBC, and gave away the plot line. I discounted it however, and was still shocked to see that they killed off poor Susan.Did anyone else notice that the studio audience wasnt laughing when the doctor told George the "sad"news?

Studios typically dub in laughter to "pump up" an episode. Relying strictly on audience laughter would never work. But yes, even there at Susan's death, no one laughed. Rather poignant.

I think you're partly wrong. They obviously add extra laughter at times to the soundtrack - it always seemed self-evident to me. The same with the applause at the end.
Well,maybe partly wrong..its not self evident to me that they add extra canned laughs to augment the studio audience, but I am almost sure that they do have a studio audience.

I was so ticked off at the slimey way the writers decided to get rid of Susan that I had to send a letter to NBC. The show is usually pretty cleverly done, but I don't know what the writers were thinking about when they wrote this one. I kept waiting for the punch line, but guess what? Her death was it! I felt cheated.

I sent a letter to NBC also. Don't look for it to do any good because not enough people will do it.
