Viewers discuss whether a character says "beamed" or "beaned" when hit by a ball of oil, with confusion about the correct terminology and script accuracy.
Helloo-o-o-o! I got beamed with a giant ball of oil!
That's what most of the script sites I see say. ( I was looking for a wav of the helloo-o-o! voice - anyone know where I can get one?
Anyway - excuse someone from over the Atlantic asking this - but I thought the word was 'beaned' - I thought that's what it was called when a pitcher hit a batter.
Like in the episode of Futurama where Leela is a pitcher on a baseball team and keeps "Beaning" all the batters, then get's a sponsorship deal to do commercials for a bean company.

I realize spelling isn't the most important thing in the world, but "get's" is a new record. I thought "it's" as a possessive was bad enough, but apparently the bottom is even deeper than I thought.
BTW, IMO the semi-underground comics Matt Groening did for "alternative" city tabloids for years were great, but the Simpsons, Futurama (I am assuming Futurama is a Groening franchise, I don't know for sure), and all the spin-offs are just shit. I could never watch more than a minute of any of them. Still, his "Life is Hell" etc. stuff was pure genius and beyond and he certainly deserves to be a multi-millionaire.
Since you decided to use that clich, would you mind explaining it to me and how it applies to my little rant?
Seriously, I've never understood whether it refers to pathetic attention-calling "suicide attempts" or to the guys who stand on street corners screaming things about lizard shape shifters in the WH.

Clich? Do you really run across that a lot? If you don't, then it's not a clich.
Aw, I don't think you really would, but what the heck, I have a few minutes. It refers to people who engage in activities that they purport to have no use for or no experience in (watching TV, enjoying Seinfeld, etc.) getting on a special interest newsgroup which is devoted to fans of the vehicle under protest and then rant about the content therein. Quite disjointedly, I might add.
You strike me as someone who is mad at a whole lot of stuff, some of it I'm not sure you even understand or understand why you are mad about it. That has the earmarks, to me, of a person slightly off plumb who, I guess stereotypically, according to you, might be inclined to hurt themself.
As I asked in response to you on another thread, why are you here?
As you get to know me better (it IS possible although nothing to look forward to) you will understand why I have heard and read this phrase a LOT.
This is an easier question to answer. And you ASKED so be fore-warned.
(BTW thank you for explaining the ledge thing. I DID "really would".)
Anyway, I'm here because I have almost nothing to do. Since the person I share the house with made me get a second phone line, I can now be connected 24/7 (since almost no one 4-dimensional ever calls me - I imagine you have a good idea why).
I wish I had never been born and I have wanted to kill myself since I was about ten. I didn't because everyone tells you "things will get better". I was stupid enough to a) believe them b) still had some hope myself since I was pretty young and things COULD change, I thought. I was wrong. It just gets worse. NO ONE has the guts to tell you THAT.
Although I have lost all hope and all I do is kill time with a variety of more-or-less-enjoyable time-wasters (as much as anything can be enjoyable to a clinically-depressed person), I have a moral obligation which prevents me from killing myself for the time being. Specifically, I have to care for an ill family member. And unfortunately, I have a very strong sense of responsibility, or I would have told them to fuck off and snuffed it years ago.
While the first time I saw Seinfeld, I hated it (especially the stupid soundtrack which turns out to be synth-generated as if twangy electric bass wasn't bad enough), the second time, I was hooked. (BTW, THANK GOD - not that there is one - that the screeching female chorus addition to the soundtrack lasted for only one episode.)
The US entertainment industry certainly knows what it's doing. I may "think" that I KNOW what's going on, but I fall prey nonetheless, like all the other sheep. Actually, I ==believe== the world would be a lot better without TV or computers, yet they ==are== the main diversions in my life.
For a variety of reasons I can't do drugs, although I know they offer a pretty good escape as well. Although not as good an escape as a well-knotted noose or a shotgun well-aimed inside the buccal cavity.
And since it is the logical follow-up question, I don't bother with suicide- or depression-related NG's because they are full of whining babies who either want to give you a teddy bear to make it all well or moan about how they've been trying to kill themselves about 17 times in the last 20 years because they hate their life and can't take another moment - yet somehow can't pull it off. I have no stomach for such phonies.
And since it is another logical follow-up question, I have spent years with a variety of psychiatrists (read: liars and snake-oil experts) who AFAIAC should all be strung up by their appropriate organs. I also DO take anti-depressants, but a drug has yet to be invented which will make a person think and look at life in an entirely different manner.
Sorry, I know 99% of this is totally off-topic, but hey, it's the land of the semi-free. Also, I TOLD you I have nothing to do so I tend to go on and on and on and on. Sorry.
So why does he say 'beamed'? It sounds like beamed when he says it... I could be wrong. Are the script sites wrong? I must say that a very kind soul with the initials TF has sent me the wav file that I asked for. It is a voice that sort of fades in and out of funniness. It is certainly very funny to me now.
