OK, George and Jerry are in Jerry's apartment. George has just confronted Jerry about Schmoopy. Now, here's where I get confused.

George starts talking about some pact that they made in the diner and Jerry had broken the pact. "They shook on it" or something like that. So, what the hell are they talking about? Is this something from a previous episode that I missed/forgot or what?

It was a pact they made in the first episode last season that they would both get engaged and married. Jerry reneged, George got stuck with Susan, and he was bitter about it up until Susan dies.
