Yeah, it's a pretty intellectually stimulating interview. She offers a pretty good assessment of the true nature of the show: it's a show about scheming people with their own agendas with very little consideration or concern for others. It's really a very dark comedy- there's no love, no true bonds of friendship per se.

How can she say there are no true bonds of friendship?! OK, they are selfish in some ways, and simply not PC in others. But they seem very intimate and connected, almost in a psychic way at times. And they are very generous and forgiving to each other, on their own terms perhaps but in a genuine way. They scheme, they fail, they commiserate together. It's not dark to me, it may be immature and sophomoric. And at times there are flashes of self-revelation and learning by the characters that suggests they might actually be able to grow up -- The Opposite comes to mind. And every once in a while they call each other on their lives and self-deceptions and egotism. Elaine is heedlessly promiscuous (?), George is without self-esteem and self-destructive, Kramer's intelligence produces wacky projects, Jerry finds power and superiority in having these harmed persons as his main friends.
