Newman's First Name

In the Mothersday episode, when Newman and Kramer are chasing the guy who stole Jerry's car in the mail truck full of deposit bottles, Kramer takes off on Newman. He goes to a farm house and spends the night, but the farmer tells him to lay off of his daughter. In one of the final scenes, Newman is fleeing out the front door and the gorgeous farmer's daughter says "Goodbye NORMAN", definitely not Newman. While some will argue that she misheard the name Newman as Norman, there's no suggestion to that effect in the storyline or in any previous episode.

She definitely mispronounced the name NEWMAN.

After reading numerous posts which speculate on what Newman's first name might be, I'd like to pose the following:

Has anyone considered the possibility that Newman IS his first name? A possibility, doncha think?

P.S. There was no response to my question about the source of the contempt we observe between Jerry and Newman. So I'll just assume that there was no one specific incident that caused the mutual antagonistic attitude, but rather a case of two personalities that clash. In other words, they've agreed to be disagreeable.

Yes, but how come in "The Scofflaw" where Newman & Kramer are in court, the judge calls him "Mr. Newman"? It seems like in a formal setting like court, she would use his real last name. Otherwise it would be like a judge calling Jerry "Mr. Jerry" or something. Now, with Kramer, people call him "Mr. Kramer" since we know his last name is Kramer. That's why I believe Newman is Newman's last name & not his first. Just an idea... :)

You make a very sound point, Heather. Being something of a Seinfeld-come-lately (I've been watching the show for about a year now), I don't believe I've seen the episode you quote.

Yes, if the judge in fact said, "Mr. Newman" then, as you say, that's a pretty convincing bit of evidence that it is Newman's last name. I guess this means you're not going to be interested in reading my theory on "Beaver" Cleaver's real first name, right? Thanks for your response.

I think Newman is enough of an idiot to be named Newman Newman. Maybe we'll have an episode dedicated to finding Newman's real first name, just like with Kramer. Is Newman's mom gonna show up? Now that's a scary thought.
