Who's Ossie Nelson? (The Opera)

In the episode "The Opera" Jerry says to George he has to sit next to Ossie Nelson (meaning Kramer). Now my question is who is Ossie Nelson and why is Jerry comparing him to Kramer?

I'm dutch and I have never heard of Ossie Nelson.

Ossie Nelson was the father of The Nelson family that starred in movies and mid 50's television in "The Adventures of Ossie and Harriet." Rickie Nelson was his son and a famous rock star with such hits as Traveling Man, Hello MaryLou and Garden Party. The reason Jerry used the Ossie Nelson reference to Kramer was because of the sweater Kramer was wearing at the opera. Ossie Nelson's trade mark was a variety of sweaters he used to wear on the tv show. Of course Jerry was upset that he had to wear a tux while Kramer had the nerve to show up casual at the opera.

....And Ozzie and Harriet's granddaughter Tracey Nelson (Ricky's daughter) appeared on Seinfeld as the girlfriend of George's who many thought resembeled Jerry.

Yes but I also saw the episode on RTL5 and Veronica.

It's a great episode, Crazy Joe Devola kicks ass in this episode. I loved it when Devola asks Elaine if she wants to see his darkroom and she says something like "no thanks, I'm a day person".

So what's the relationship between the real-life Joe Davola and Jerry Seinfeld?

Joe Davola was a producer who worked on Remote Control and the Keenan Ivory Wayans show.

They must have known each other for Seinfeld, (or perhaps Larry David) to have named a recurring evil character after him!

Most people who are alive today remember the TV show Ozzie and Harriet. In it Ozzie almost always wore a cardigan sweater. I would bet that Kramer was wearing a knitted cardigan sweater in the episode.
