final episode

Maybe this has been mulled over many times, but I'm new to the group. Does anyone else think that the final episode was an absolute insult to the rest of the otherwise immaculate series?

Considering what it was, and what it was following, it simply could not have been written like 'just another episode'. I think that given the timetable Larry David had to work with, and the fact that first and foremost he needed a plot that would allow for the return of dozens of old favorites, he did a good job. I've since rewatched the finale several times and, other than the whole 'Kramer gets water in his ear' part and the fact that Jackie could have won that trial if he knew anything about the law, it was a decent ending. (And seeing them end the series with the same meaningless dialog they began it with was somehow very satisfying.)

Not as good as some past episodes? Sure.

Absolute insult? Not at all.

Unless you're one of those "I never watched the show before but I did tune in to the final episode to see what the fuss was about" people.

A somewhat related item in the Philadelphia Daily News "Tattle" column today (7/7/00):

There will never be a "Seinfeld" reunion - and it's our fault, Jason Alexander said.

"Our finale episode. . .wasn't good enough for anybody," Alexander groused to TV Guide Online. "We could do no right in ending that show.

"So now we're going to do a reunion show? Why? It's insane," he said, sounding increasingly like the George Costanza he played for so many years. "There's no story there. There's nothing to do. It's four people, it wasn't like we had a cliff-hanger."

Alexander is now developing TV-series ideas for his own production company. But while he turns up his nose at a "Seinfeld" reunion, he's not turning up his nose at Jerry Seinfeld.

He's not stupid.

"I would work with him again in a heartbeat," Alexander said.

The best thing to be said about the Final Show - ATLEAST NO ONE DIED!

I thought it was not as good as any of the other episodes. It was "recycling" than anything else...
