Because the real Kramer hadn't made up his mind whether he'd let Seinfeld and Larry David use his name.

I guess he made up his mind by the time the next season started.

Another note: some guides list the character's name as Hoffman in the pilot. This must have been another name they were considering.

so in all the seinfeld universe what's wrong and what's inspire from jerry's life. i mean did he have a neighbour acting like kramer, is larry david is george, if so who's elaine in the real life. pleasze answer me i'm french so i don't know anything about jerry's life.

The character of Elaine is loosely based upon fellow comic Carol Leifer (star of WB"s Alright Already). She was a writer on Seinfeld, and had bit parts in a few of the episods.
