Observations from The Seinfeld Chronicles

I pop in the 1st DVD of Seasons 1 & 2 and watch the very first real pilot, The Seinfeld Chronicles (now note the DVD has it twice: "original" and "revised" versions) and I notice the following noteworthy nuggets:

*The coffeeshop is not the same and it's a table, not a booth

*The outside shot of Jerry's apartment building: it's not the same apartment building as later on

*The first "trashing" of George is the waitress making sarcastic remarks (like how nobody wants to see him on caffeine)

*The very first act of deceit is the coffeeshop waitress declaring serving regular coffee to George (or so she says) against George's wish

*The first entry of Kramer into Jerry's apartment: HE KNOCKS ON THE DOOR and does not just barge in

*There is clear and unmistakeable reference to how George should be doing the opposite (I can't recall the exact transcript but it can't be missed if you had seen The Opposite recently)

Ah, but did you notice what Jerry calls him when he tells Jerry the Mets score? His original name in the series which was Kessler. After the pilot they changed it to Kramer.

KRAMER: (quietly) Ohh (Eyeing Jerry's empty apartment) Really?

How about Kramer isn't Kramer, but "Kessler". Jerry calls him "Kessler" when he comes in to watch the Mets game on TV well past midnight.

Jerry and Larry David at that time hadn't yet sought a release from the real Kenny Kramer to use his name, so in the pilot, the character is "Kessler". Years later in "The Betrayal" (the backwards episode), at the end where they show Jerry meeting Kramer for the very first time, after Kramer introduces himself as Kramer, Jerry says he thought his name was Kessler.

Elaine does not yet exist in the pilot. They decided to add a female character after the pilot.

George is supposedly cool in the pilot. In the laundromat scene, he tells Jerry that the woman who is coming to stay with him is sending him signals and Jerry needs to pick up the signals. Contrast this with telling a woman in a later episode that he can't come upstairs for coffee because it is getting late.

Jerry's apartment layout as well as building is also different.

The Kramer barge in was developed later, as was his wacky hairstyle.
