Today's NY Times Business section has an article on the rumor that Snapple was funding pro-life groups. I first heard this one about two months ago, and I thought that it was a classic UL, a la Proctor Gamble's satanic symbols. It seems that this article confirms it: the rumor seems to have started in Berkeley, where folks are a bit more jumpy politically than elsewhere (the company doesn't know whether the rumor just started, or was planted by one of its competitors). The article suggests that there was a variation of the rumor, in which Snapple supported the KKK (the little kosher "K" on the label).
Snapple seems to have silenced the rumor by a vigorous letter-writing campaign (to abortion rights groups, and to any customer writing to them asking about this matter, including pro-life people congratulating the company) along with posters and fliers in the Bay Area.
I'm posting to alt.tv.seinfeld, even though this is an alt.folklore.urban matter, because the matter came up in that show a while ago.
