Cal Carnson

In last weeks episode about the the Puerto Rican Day Parade, Jerry
assumes the identity of 'Cal Varnson'.   In a previous episode, Jerry
answers the phone for Vandelay Industries with a similar if not the same
name.   I always thought he answered the phone with 'Vandelay
Industries, Cal Varner speaking'.    Can anyone remember if that is
correct.  Was it Cal Varner or Cal Varnson?  I think this is the episode
where George was looking for a job and went down to the unemployment
office and gave Jerry's number as 'Vandelay Industries'.

I just saw that episode again. A local station here just re-ran it. You are right, it was the episode where Jerry and the gang meet Keith Hernandez, and Kramer and Newman reenact the scene (via film-reel montage) of the "spitting incident" (a la JFK assassination - around the time the movie "JFK" was out.)

George has to go into his "case worker" and prove that he's been looking for a job, so he gives the lady Jerry's number and tells her it's "Vandelay Industries", a latex manufacturer. He then tells Jerry he has to answer the phone "Vandelay Industries" in case it's his case worker calling. He does answer it that way, and identifies himself as "Cal Varnson", but it's not the lady calling. Later, Kramer answers the phone when the case worker actually calls and blows George's cover....
