Watching Ellie

It will be easy to tell when Dreyfus has a "funny" line--she'll make a cutesy little face when she says it. Why do they keep giving this no-talent "actress/comedian" a show?

1. Have you *seen* Julia Louis-Dreyfus? 2. I liked Watching Ellie with the clock -- it's better than most of the sitcoms on television. I hope the revamp of the show will work -- we need better comedy on television -- thank god for Raymond. 3. Have you seen Julia Louis-Dreyfus? (reiterating the point -- she's easy on the eyes, and as Elaine she's F***ing FUNNY) 4. I'd like to see you do a 30 minute sitcom ("what, it's a sitcom" -- come on some body jump on this line -- I'm tossing you a softball here)

I agree with you 66%: On SNL, not funny. On "Watching Ellie", not funny. But on "Seinfeld" she was extremely funny.

Allow me to get all James Liptonesque on your ass for a moment: actors are like instruments, if they have beautiful music to play, they will play beautiful music. You can't expect her to be funny without decent material to work with or, as she said in "The English Patient", "Give me something I can use."

PS... actually she wasn't very funny on CYE either.

The rest of the cast carried her in "Seinfeld". Anyone could have played that part to the same effect.

1. It's Jerry's show -- has said many times he surrounded himself with talented people. He hires who he wants and he chose JLD -- thus Jerry thinks she is talented -- good enough for me and I love the show.

2. Fans of the show love the show -- Otherwise, why watch it? If you don't like it, don't watch. (Why are you here again)

3. "worship at the altar of the neurotic Mr. Seinfeld" ??? Ummmmm, Jerry seems pretty darn confident to me. In addition he is/was one of the highest paid performers ever on television (thus highly successful)-- and (I and) many people think Seinfeld is best show ever on television.

I'd say Jerry is the opposite of neurotic -- Neurotic means: "Pertaining to or suffering from neurosis Neurosis means: Any of a various emotional disturbances, less severe than the psychoses, and usually involve anxiety, depression, and unresolved psychic conflicts.

1) I do think JLD is very talented but often the storylines she was given in Seinfeld were the weakest and/or most annoying or contrived of the lot, even in otherwise great episodes. This may be because Larry David & real Jerry (and presumably the other male writers) had more trouble writing for females, something they own up to when George & Jerry are writing their own sitcom.

2) Jerry IS, or at least was, neurotic. That's why he's a good comedian. In 'Seinfeld Universe' by Greg Gattuso, an interview of Jerry's with Playboy is quoted: 'If you're not cranky and annoyed, you can't be a comedian. Any good comedian is, by definition, highly irritable.'

3) Also, though I love the show and think it a classic that stands head and shoulders above all other sitcoms, there were plenty of flawed episodes and it should not be immune to criticism.

When does it return? Does anyone think it will last? Cast or other changes on it? I guess since it is suppose to be coming back, it was the most successful of the Seinfeld co-stars shows. But it might have been already.

Why does she get a 2nd chance, but Michael Richards didn't? I thought his show was much funnier, but I geuss he's not married to a TV producer, huh?

NBC Entertainment president Jeff Zucker has been a strong supporter of the show (Watching Ellie).
