Elaine's last name is Benes. I'd guess she is either spanish or portuguese. Look at her hair. Don't be fooled by the fact she knows all about every faith--if you live in NYC that's just a means of survival.

Nationality and religion are two different things. Both Portugal and Spain are home to many Catholics.
Sheesh. At the risk of beating this to death, I didn't see how the previous poster could look at Elaine's hair and somehow determine that she's Spanish or Portuguese. Nationality aside, Elaine is Catholic.
