The recent episode of Mad About You where Paul loses his wedding ring got us thinking about hot dog carts in NYC and how they are used as a TV/Movie device to say "you're in New York". Neither my wife or I can remember seeing a hot dog vendor when we were there, and we were pretty sure that there has never been a hot dog cart in Seinfeld (there was Papaya King, but no carts).
What's the deal? is the popular impression of the hot dog cart as a New York fixture incorrect or are they more common outside midtown, which is where we spent all our time.
