Just added The Library to my ever-increasing list of Scripts.

Interesting question: Can you name George's Gym Teacher? I bet you can't.

Ok,

Everyone thinks George's Gym teacher was Mr. Heyman. That is an understandable mistake. But when I was transcribing The Library to add the script to my web site, I heard the line we ALL missed.

George says to Elaine: "I never even HAD him for Gym!" Jerry adds: "I had him for Hygiene." So we never hear who George's Gym teacher ever was in The Library.

But we do know that Mr. Bevilaqua was their grade 9 Gym teacher in The Race. As Jerry describes the race that involved Jerry, Duncan, and George in Mr. Bevilaqua's class. [So DAVE kind of got that right]

Actually I think everyone else was right (disregarding spelling) and you're being too clever for your own good. I've still got the episode on video from the other night and watched the scene in question.

It's very indistinct but I think George says "YOU never even had him for gym class." He says this because Jerry makes up an incident where George was made to wear a jockstrap on his head in class so George replies for Elaine's benefit to show it's untrue. Then Jerry says "I had him for HYGIENE" meaning "(Yes I never had him for gym but ) I had him for HYGIENE (and that's how I all about him and his bad teeth)". Watching it again from the emphasis and facial expressions I am more and more convinced that's the only interpretation that makes sense.

Elsewhere in the episode at the time of the wedgy Heyman tells George his waistband had been showing throughout the class which at least suggests he was his teacher. And do gym teachers take such particular dislike to children they don't even teach?

On the balance of probabilities I would say that in fact Mr Heyman was indeed Georges' gym teacher and I want a prize.
