I don't think the crime was ever mentioned in detail. That's why it was so ominous for Jerry when Leo is mad at him--he has absolutely no idea what his deranged uncle might do and begins having fantasies of a CAPE FEAR type of scenario.
His crime probably has something to do with buying that asian hooker in that hotel room...
I don't think so. It was referred to as a "crime of passion"--usually a term for impulsive violence.
