It was a spoof on Midnight Cowboy which starred Dustin Hoffman and Jo(h)n Voight as two homosexuals. They were cowboys, and Voight wore cowboy boots, a fact reflected in Jerry's wearing of the cowboy boots when Kramer takes all of his tennis shoes for cleaning at the mom and pop cobbler. Was this also the episode where Elaine's co-worker can't hear anyone, and therfore escapes work? If so, it's a direct reference to the Midnight Cowboy theme song, which I believe won an Academy Award that year.....

The acting was great, as was the musical score. The photography and editing were kind of non-linear and strange, like in some of Oliver Stone's recent films, but the emotions were really brought home. This is turning into a plug, I guess, but it's a truly great flick IMHO, highly recommended!
