Low Point for Seinfeld?

I think the lowest point was "The Betrayal." Never found anything funny about it. I remember being upset that the end of Seinfeld was very near, tuning it, and being upset that such garbage was taking up one of the last chances I had to see the series live. Anyone like this episode? If they spliced it together would it be funny? Every series has a low point where they "jump the shark" and I think this is where Seinfeld does it

I think this was a great episode, if only for its originality.

The argument of it not being funny if you splice it together and play it forward (or backwards) is mute. It wasn't meant to be shown as a regular episode. What makes it funny is discovering what has triggered certain reactions and statements.

Plus, you gotta love the fact that it ends (or begins) with Jerry moving into the building. "What the hell is e-mail?" LOL. Love that line!

The best line was when George was demanding reparations from Jerry because he had once slept with the girl George was now dating. He told Jerry that he (George) should be allowed to sleep with Elaine as punishment.

Jerry: That doesn't punish me; that punishes Elaine. And cruelly, I might add.

I also like the fact that they brought back Susan for the one scene in Monk's when Elaine is walking in with "Peter". Very nice touch on a small detail!!!

The Frogger was the worst episode, IMO.

I wouldn't say this is when they jumped the shark because the show was weakening long before, but the Frogger was definitely a regretful episode.

Agreed. The Busboy was a rare early series miss.

I think The Frogger was bad because it was the culmination of a shift in the show from a more clever low intensity humor to a loud, garish and somewhat obnoxious tone that was found in seasons 7-9.

I'm not a big fan of the final 3rd of the show at all.

The Busboy was a decent episode, and I agree with Jason, Julia and Michael on the commentary track: it is the first and one of the few, rare moments between George and Kramer when they go visit the Busboy in his apartment.

i like the busboy. George was so scared. Early kramer being bossy to a stranger - foreshadawing for when he'll tell the old people to get the wiring looked at...

Least favorite episode? THE LAST ONE!! But that doesn't count. So...I'd have to say....

Well - it's hard. Even the 'bad' episodes have funny moments. One of my least favorite moments is George talking to the hospital administrator about the SPLAT when the suicide landed on his car. It's not funny, George's timing is off.

it's off again when he and Jerry try to leave Susan's parents apartment after Mr. Ross is outed. George pointing at his watch and talking about the time - it just irks me for some reason.

The last thing I can think of that really irritated me. The Dockers girlfriend saying the dialogue in the commercial 'rang true' for her. It sounded like such a weird way to say it. Jerry should have been breaking up with her just for saying a commercial "rang true" regardless of whether or not the pants and the commercial were stupid.

The Low Point as far as I am concerned is when those two morons speak spanish through half the episode. Manny and whoever his boyfrind is. You know when Elaine almost gets an apartment right above Jerry's. That is bad!

This is one of the shows that my husband and I call "George is an ass" episode. But I loved the scenes with Jerry, Puddy and Elaine.

I love George in this episode. Instead of an ass, I would just call him 'weird George', like in "The Burning" when he says to Kramer after Kramer says 'they' gave him gonorrhea, George says "Who did? The government?"

Actually, just because a series may have episodes that are not as good as others does not mean it is "jumping the shark." If they decided to have Jerry and Elaine actually marry and then settle down in suburbia and have a kid etc...or when Susan died if George had an acutal emotional breakdown instead of his wanting to go join his friends for a cup of coffee - those things would have turned the show to a different direction in hopes of pumping up new interest and therefore "jumping the shark." Thankfully the show never strayed from its orignal "doctrines," and while it had its ups and downs as far as episodes are concerned I think even the low ones have their funny moments. All the above is off course IIHO &#9786;&#9786;&#9786; Marty ...I find it odd to be experiencing such feelings of joy in association with a book that is principally a devastating account of spiritual asphyxiation...

I think the lowest point of the whole series is the way the writers chose to dispose of the Susan's character. I liked Heidi Zwedberg's Susan a lot.

Really? I don't like The Raincoats so much, The Trip is so-so, but I enjoyed The Boyfriend, and after re-watching JFK the other night, I find it even funnier.

I liked "the Boyfriend" but being technical here, it was a two part episode. It was the first episode that I saw that I liked being one who thought the show was "too Jewish" in the earlier shows.

I'm not sure how you define "early" and "later". IMO the show steadily improved and probably peaked in seasons 5 and 6 and then it got progressively sillier. There is some very forced comedy in season 9 in particular but I still don't think season 9 was as bad as the first couple of seasons.

Not that they're really that bad, I'm speaking in relative terms. I liked the show a lot from the get-go but then it just kept exceeding expectations. But you're right, to each their own. A lot of posters here seem to prefer the season 9 episodes so....

You're right that the show peaked around season 5. My favorite period is Seasons 2-5 (and most of season 6)

I might be a bit unusual in that I really liked a lot of season 2 (The Jacket, The Heart Attack, The Revenge, The Chinese Restaurant)

The episodes in this period seem more authentically "Seinfeld" whereas the later episodes (7-9) seem like parodies of Seinfeld (which are still funny, but too different for me to love them.)

I also have seen the later episodes quite a bit more often which might have something to do with it.

The lowest point for me was the final episode. I can't believe Larry David wrote that crap.

The pilot was not very good either.

Frankly speaking, I didn't think much of The Chinese Restaurant, and if I'd seen it when the series aired originally I might not have tuned back in. But other than that, I enjoy most all of em. The first season was sort of rough though.
