British Seinfeld. . really this time!

I was flicking throught the channels last night, and I found out that a show was just starting on BBC2, called 'Coupling', and I just have to say how similar it was to Seinfeld: the show didn't seem to be about anything, and in the episode I watched, it was about an Aunts funeral, and a thing called the 'GiggleLoop' where by its impossible to stop laughing during a minutes silence after someones death, once you start laughing. . . It was executed perfectly, with superb comic timing, but it was amazing how similar to Seinfeld it was. . .

I know NOTHING about the show you described but the plot you described has been used before, most notably in the 1970's on The Mary Tyler Moore Show when Mary could not stop laughing at the funeral of her TV stations kids programming clown. I know "nothing is new" on tv in terms of ideas but atleast Seinfeld broke some new ground.

Mary and the gang would never have given this phenomenon a name.

That's distinctly Seinfeldian.

YES so I am not crazy :-) I saw that show last week and I got everyone in the livingroom "What sitcom are you thinking about when you see this! go on guess!" And indeed my friends it is clear ow so clear, was this the idea? I wonder how the pitch sounded.. a bit sad and low to try and recreate a show like seinfeld
