According to a blurb I just read in an online article, actors considered for the George Costanza role included Steve Buscemi, Nathan Lane, Danny DeVito, and David Allen Grier, and Tony Shalhoub was a potential Kramer. I also remember reading somewhere that Patricia Heaton and (ugh) Rosie O'Donnell were considered for Elaine's part. Any others?

Yes, and remember that guy who looked like Kramer? Weird! I wonder if he ever was a stand in for thr real Kramer, he would have been a great stunt man for the part? They should have written him into an episode as a relative of the K-man.
In the extras on one of the dvds Seinfeld said he begged and begged Jake Johansen to play the part of George.
I can't imagine the cast being any diffrent than it was, only those four could create that kind of magic. When you look at all the people who tried out for the parts and were turned down you can definately see the hand of fate at work.
