PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Say goodbye to Kramer, George and Elaine while you're saying goodbye to Jerry.
NBC has already inquired about creating spinoffs to ``Seinfeld'' after the show leaves the air in May and was rebuffed, the network's entertainment president, Warren Littlefield, said Saturday.
``It seems as though the talent feels, this has been sensational, it's time to move on,'' Littlefield told television writers.
Littlefield wouldn't say which of the characters on the top-rated comedy would be best suited for a spinoff. One of NBC's most successful comedies now, ``Frasier,'' is a spinoff from the former series, ``Cheers.''
NBC made its inquiries to Castle Rock, the production company that creates ``Seinfeld.'' Littlefield said he didn't think a spinoff would be created without the approval of Seinfeld, co-creator of the series.
After finding out around Christmas that ``Seinfeld'' wouldn't be back, NBC has been focusing on what will replace the comedy in the key 9 p.m. Thursday night time slot. Littlefield said the candidates are ``Friends,'' ``Frasier,'' ``Just Shoot Me,'' ``3rd Rock From the Sun'' and ``Mad About You.''
``I think we've got a lot of choices that are creatively turned on,'' he said. ``It's like, `Put me in, coach.'''
NBC has canceled ``Union Square,'' the freshman comedy that precedes ``Seinfeld'' on the Thursday night schedule, he said. It will try an episode of ``Just Shoot Me'' in that time slot this week.
