Stupid question perhaps, but is there something more behind the phrase "Turn that tape off"?
I heard it in The Muffin Tops, when Kramer plays that banjo music on his casette player in the Peterman Reality Bus Tour bus, and again in The Merv Griffin Show, when Kramer plays the Merv Griffin tune on his cassette player.
Any ideas? What does it mean?

Sometimes "Turn off that tape." Means exactly that- turn off that tape!!!!!
I don't think so. It's a bit of a reference to the soundtracks accompanying elementary school educational filmstrips, with their "<BOOP!>" to advance to the next frame and perhaps a "Stop tape now" at the end of the filmstrip.
Do they even use filmstrips anymore?

It's just one of Kramer's quirks. Reminding him when to stop playing the music. Simple.
