I love the Seinfeld TV show, the characters and scripts, but I've always thought that the short segments at the beginning of the shows are the weakest. Amusing but not hilarious.
This raises the question: I assume that Seinfeld is still working as a comic. How funny is he? Does he have scriptwriters for his stand-up routines?
Very funny. I saw him in Montreal in October (?) and he was very funny. He spoke for almost 2 hours and then fielded a few questions at the end. I thought it was hilarious.
Something I found interesting is that his personae on stage was *exactly* like he is in the show. Same mannerisms, tone of voice, expressions, actions - it was weird to have watched him everyday for over ten years and then to see him live on stage talking the way he always talks.

Comedian Kathy Griffith has also commented on that during her stand-up bit recalling her appearance on the show. She said that it was almost like talking to someone doing a Jerry Seinfeld impression, and that as she was talking to him she noticed she was doing the same mannerisms.
On a similar note, I had never seen a Jimmy Stewart movie (not even "It's a Wonderful World") until a few years ago. But now every time I see him in a film, it always seems like he's doing an impression of Dana Carvey doing his Jimmy Stewart impression. :-)
Mike Costanza, Jerry's buddy from his college years, writes in "The Real Costanza" that what you see on stage is Jerry just being himself. Same goes for the show, it's just Jerry being Jerry. If you haven't read the book I urge y'all to do just that. It gives good insight into Jerry's life, and particularly when he started out as a stand up, from a friends point of view.
Absolutely. Of all the Seinfeld books out there, this is the first one I would recommend to anyone interested in learning about the pre-TV show Jerry.

I read a book recently written by the 'real' George Costanza. His name is Michael Costanza and a real life, long time friend of Jerry. In the book he said Jerry in the show is Jerry in real life.

I tend to agree but only because I've heard those monologues so often I can practically recite them. I'm really looking forward to the new stuff.
