That's not the first time Mel has been on t.v. He was often on Night Court.
I loved how they managed to get a Mel commercial aired during this segment!

That whole Tony Bennett thing was a Gen-X joke anyhow. They thought: "It's hip to like Tony Bennett because my peers have no real idea who this guy is and don't know shit about jazz singing anyway." (I didn't say it had to be logical!) Believe me, it won't happen again with a jazz singer. It did happen with Monks so maybe an untalented gossip show host playing keyboards is next. Anyway, gotta go watch Entertainment Tonight! ;?)

The whole Jimmy thing was quite silly, I thought. What is it with Mel Torme, though? Ever since Night Court, the Velvet Fog has experienced a real surge in popularity. He should kiss the ground Harry Anderson walks on.
