There was a post by Vidwhiz about A collection of all the episodes ever made, but it was in European format. What the difference between European and ones used in the United States? Is there any way to buy a European VCR in the the US?

We New Yorkers have an abundance of electronics stores that offer PAL/SECAM vcr's (that's what those letters stand for). Since you prob. don't live in NYC, go to J&R.com or another electronics retailer if you actually are willing to drop $200 or $300 just for a collection of Seinfeld episodes. More appropriately, I'd recommend finding a photo/video place that will do the conversion for you onto US video standards for a small (relative to the cost of a PAL/SECAM vcr) fee.

Either way, I'd suggest you going to a somewhat reputable place to have them do the conversions, or, if you really really feel like getting this done yourself, why not purchase a PAL/SECAM vcr (make sure it's hi-fi) and copy the tapes yourself...then, if appropriate, return the PAL/SECAM? I think The Wiz, Circuit City and the other franchises offer PAL/SECAM...the only question, of course, would be the return policy, if that applies.

If you're seriously considering this, buy from a reputable place (eg The Wiz, Circuit City, etc.), make sure you use a credit card that will back you up (not some card from a three-person 'bank' in the midwest somewhere -- AmEx is a good bet), and make sure that the store's return policy is refund and not simply store credit.
J&R, as an example, lets you return stuff but will only give you store credit, so make sure you keep your eyes open when/if you buy it. And of course, if the tapes come out well, you ought to send me a set free of charge ;-)
