Season Premier: Very Funny

It was even better than last year's seanson finale!

I liked it, and if they continue being this way, well the show could go on forever.

The best part was George in The Susan Foundation, "I can't go." just like Elaine with Mr. Pitt.

hey folks, I'm writing a paper on Seinfeld (for which I missed the premier.grrrr), and I really need to know, in the babka episode, which babka did jerry and Elaine want and which one did they end up with. Also, if you can give me other great concrete examples of Jerry being obsessed with the trivial and mundane, write them!

I'm pretty sure they wanted the chocolate babka, but ended up taking the cinnamon babka because the woman before them took the last chocolate...

This is one of my favorite episodes off all time so I just HAD to answer this. Elaine and Jerry going in, hoping to get a chocolate babka. They forget to take a number though and Elaine thinks that they should ask another couple for theirs'. They end up knowing the couple and because this couple has a higher number they get to the counter first. And they get the last chocolate babka. Jerry and Elaine look around for something else to get. Their number is called and she points at a cake in the display case.

Elaine: "What's that one?" Woman: "That? Cinammon babka." Jerry: "Another babka?" Woman: "There's chocolate and there's cinammon." Jerry: "Well we gotta get the cinammon!" Elaine: "Yeah but they got the chocolate. We'll be going in with lesser babka." Jerry: "I beg your pardon? Cinammon takes a backseat to no babka! People love cinammon! It should be on tables in restaurants along with salt and pepper! Whenever anyone says 'Ooo this is so good, what's in this?' the answer invariably comes back: 'Cinammon. Cinammon.' again and again. Lesser babka? I think not!"

Hehehe! Sorry I had to do that whole thing there but I love the quotes and that's one of my favorites. So there's the first part. The second: there's several examples of him being obsessed with trivial things. For example: in the episode where is getting the settlement from the Cafe Latte people for the coffee that Kramer spilled on himself. This is also the episode with Bob "Miestro" Cobb.

Jerry: "Hey...can you believe this guy, Bob Cobb?" George: "Bob Cobb?" Jerry: "You know...The Miestro?" George: "Oh, I missed the Miestro?!"

     Anyway, the Miestro mentions a home that he has in Tuscanni (I have
no idea if that's spelled right) and Jerry says that he hears that it's
beautiful there.  Miestro get's real defensive and tells Jerry that he's
better off not looking for anything because there's nothing available
there.  But Jerry wasn't even asking if there was.  After this point,
Jerry becomes obsessed with finding out if there's any houses available
in Tuscanni.  He talks to George about it, then remembers that Poppi is
from Tuscanni.  He sees Poppi, who set's Jerry up with a meeting with
some Italian guy who looks like a gangster.  The guy has the keys to the
house and tells Jerry that's it'll be 2 million lira (1700 american).
Jerry appears to be scared of the guy and ends up buying the house
because at the end, he's getting out of a cab with Kramer infront of the
house.  The whole thing seemed a little weird because it seemed strange
to have Jerry obsessed with it.  It didn't seem like something that they
would give to him.  George maybe.  Maybe it's just me! :)
     Ah well, hope that answered your questions.  Need anymore help,
write me.  And I'd like a copy of that paper too! :)

I loved it too. I wish Janine Garofalo had a bigger part, but Jerry always gets off easy so it was true to form.

Answer me this.... When Kramer gets dragged down the ladder by the kids, it is obviously a movie reference, but what?????

I thought it was in reference to the AIDS ribbon episode, where Kramer gets beat up for not wearing an AIDS ribbon. Of course I could be totally off base with that thought, its been a long time since I saw that episode, but I seem to remember Kramer trying to escape by ladder in it. I also miss Janeane, but I wasn't surprised that it happened, I figured Janeane would dump Jerry being a female version of him, and the simultaneous breakup makes perfect sense. Now I do have one new idea, from this episode, have Janeane get together with George now. I would get my girl Janeane back, which would make me happy, and I'm sure they could work out some kinda plot from that, among other things George would no longer need Jerry, as he would have Janeane, and she might be the only women he can be involved without killing independent George. It would also probably freak Jerry out for George to essentially be dating him, and I'm sure Elaine would have a few things to say about it as well. Bring back Janeane!!!

The movie is "Suddenly, Last Summer" with Elizabeth Taylor. A character died that way in the movie. Derek Stone

To me the funniest scene was the shot of George from above when he's yelling: KHAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!

LOL! As soon as George started shaking like that, I knew that was coming!! It was great!!! The other part I loved was when they were talking about Star Trek II there and George says that it was a quite a thing when Spock died. Him and Jerry sort of lower their heads for a second and get real quiet. Then they snap out of it. It was great!!

Isn't it a ref to Montgomery Cliff's death scene in "Suddenly, Last Summer"? The hand reaching up as the mob moves in sure made me think of this film.

Kramer was just a big bully who beats up all the kids in the Karate class. All the kids under an impression Kramer is invincible, so nobody dares to challenge him. After Laney pushed Kramer to the ground at the Karate school, all the kids knew Kramer is not as tough as advertised. They lured K. to a back alley and proceed to beat him up after all these abuse perpetrated by K. and abetted by the instructor!

The season opener was as pathetic as last season's finale. Seinfeld is no longer cutting edge humor. It's old. Harry on Third Rock is funnier and more bizarre than Kramer. The last real funny show featured Elaine's date, the Devil fan "face painter." I hope Seinfeld has a couple funny episodes left in him. I see a bad year ahead.

Agree with you the season opener was pathetic. But even the season finale was a cut above this year's opener.
