SEINFELD FUNNY???

Is there anyone out there who thinks George and Kramer are what makes the show Sienfeld what it is and not Jerry?

I think the supporting actors (George and Kramer) are very funny even when they are not trying to be. As for Jerry himself, I think he needs to work on his jokes a bit, and he does not come across as funny to me no matter how hard he tries.

Am I alone, or am I missing something?

I agree. Jerry is by far the weakest character on the show. Which is not to say that he is not funny, because I think he is, however--as I said, I think he is the weakest. I can't get enough of Elaine. Love the Laney!

I agree Jerry is the least funny character on the show, but he still deserves his pay check. Technically he writes half the jokes on the show and gives them to Jason, Micheal, and Julia. His character is just to control all of the elements of a good comedy show.

Those of you who think Jerry is a weak character or think any one character is funnier than the others have to agree that the characters (for the most part) are so funny because they work off each other. Because of this, you can't say that George is funnier than Jerry because without Jerry, George wouldn't be as funny. Would you want to watch a show with George as the main character? I think the characters need each other too much to compare them.

Jerry makes me laugh cause he's the straight guy. He's the normal one among three very different, very odd characters. He's our point of reference; without him we could not constantly be reminded how-off-the-wall Kramer, George and Elaine really are.

Why would he hang out with these people? Because he appreciates their bizarre qualities. He's silently amused by them all, like he's going to use it in his act or something.

When the show first started, it really bothered me that he sort of smiled a lot. It made him seem like he kept thinking, "Wow I can't believe I'm on T.V." He still does it, but now it's sort of like he gets a big kick from these wackos.

So, Seinfeld is like Andy Taylor hanging out with Barney Fife and Gomer and Goober, except he's Jewish and living in NYC? Could be. Really. And "Mad About You" is an updated "Honeymooners." Which means we need a hip version of Ozzie and Hariet and we'll be all set.

Jerry is HILARIOUS!!!! George is definately a vital part of the show; I think that Kramer is limited in his comic ability. Frankly, I've tired of him. His character is too flat. I think that the dynamic between Elaine and Jerry is one of the funniest parts of the program. To discount Jerry's talent is unfair. Without him, then I don't think that Kramer, Elaine, or even Gworge would be nearly as funny. It's Jerry's 'normalcy that provides the appropriate context for the other characters' lunacy. He's the backbone, so to speak... That's why the name "Seinfeld" is so perfect.

I think folks here are carrying this criticism of Jerry a bit too far. Seinfield himself readily ADMITS that he CANNOT ACT!! He has said this in numerous interviews. He even made fun of it himself during the episodes when he was filming the pilot. Again, HE ADMITS THAT HE CANNOT ACT!!

This has nothing to do with the show. The show is all about Seinfeld's view and observation of the world around him. It is about how he perceives the world in a very comic way. It is his creation, and he got good comic actors to surround him to make it work, and without him, the show is nothing more than a bunch of good comic actors doing their thing -- just like any other sitcom on tv. To even mention that Seinfeld cannot act, or is remotely pulling the show down, is to totally miss the boat.

You're probably not alone, and to each his own when deciding what is funny and what is not. I agree that George and Kramer are very funny on the show, almost stealing the majority of laughs. What you may be missing is that without Jerry, they would be nothing. Jerry provides many laughs himself, but he is also an excellent foil for these two misfits to bounce their lines against. They themselves realize this fully, which is why they have both turned down offers for spin-off series.

And let's not forget Elaine. "I have seen the nipple of your SOUL!"
