Fans of Jason Alexander (George Costanza) will want to know about his participation in a recent recording of a Gershwin musical. The title is LADY, BE GOOD!, it dates from 1924, and it's a brand-new recording released as part of an ongoing Gershwin series on the Elektra Nonesuch label.
Jason Alexander takes the role of the "supporting comedian," lawyer Watty Watkins. He sings the title song and participates in the finales to each act. He also gets some spoken dialog, so we can hear that it is indeed the actor we know; his delivery is priceless.
Jason Alexander is of course no newcomer to musicals. He appeared in the original cast of Sondheim's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, was in Kander and Ebb's THE RINK, and won a Tony award as Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY, in which he was the master of ceremonies and was onstage almost throughout.
