Emmys a joke.

Who the hell runs the Emmy's?

  Another year and Fraiser gets 300 nominations and Seinfeld the usual token
slap in the face.
   And here Jerry wraps up the most important comedy to yet be produced for the
small screen, (it may be as historic as Moliere or Mark Twain)   but it is
decided that John Lithgow and Paul Riser are more deserving as lead comedic
actors ?!
   Are the Emmys run by the mafia or what?  Do they poll only bitter failed
screenwriters who had to settle for jobs as t.v. critics?
   I know the Oscars can be pretty bad some years,  but generally they are
fairly close to rewarding most of the deserving work.
   The Emmys are obviously so blatantly corrupt it takes the breath away.    I
mean Kelsey Grammer was great in his role on Cheers,  but the new show is
pretty much mediocre  (although I've only been able to stand small doses-  if
anyone can direct me to a truly funny episode of Fraiser I'd appreciate it.)
Shows like Fraiser, Third Rock From the Sun,  even Mad About You ain't even
close to the same league as Seinfeld.  Hell, even solid shows like Cheers look
mediocre next to Seinfeld.
    Any actor, writer, or director who receives an Emmy this year should refuse
it in protest.  But don't worry,  no one will.  If I were in the business, I'd
be embarassed to have one on the mantle.   They don't mean anything-  except
maybe that you've kissed the right asses recently.

It's obvious the judges who matter, namely "TV viewers" have already voted. Seinfeld had the highest ratings of any comedy show on TV, and not by a small margin either.

Besides, the day Jerry becomes the kind of guy who frets about not having enough statuettes on his mantel will be the day I no longer consider myself a fan of his.

Hoo, everyone I have talked to hates "Everybody Loves Raymond". So do I. I just don't see it, I think it is just like every other lame sitcom on TV.

Well, everyone has their tastes. It is one of the few comedies that I've seen lately (besides Seinfeld) that makes me laugh. Even Friends has become mediocre. For whatever reason Everyone Loves Raymond strikes a chord with me. Surprisingly it's from the same network that gives us Walker Texas Ranger.

  I just don't understand how, in the wake of awesome shows like Seinfeld and
Walker Texas Ranger,   the suits in L.A.  have learned nothing-  they continue
to greenlight complete crap.  Then they stack the Emmy committee with their
puppets and think statues will translate into ratings.   I love the American
people-  you can't fool them,  no matter how high up the corporate ladder you
climb or how much power you have.
     P.S.  -wouldn't it be hilarious if there existed someone who thought both
Seinfeld and Walker Texas Ranger were awesome.

I agree. who thinks john lithgow is funny. Third rock from the sun is the biggest flop show in the world. I wish that Drew Carey and the new show Whose Line is it Anyway should be on NBC. Those are now my favorites since Seinfeld signed off.

My new favorite comedy since Seinfeld left is Everybody Loves Raymond. I swear to God my husband and I are just like them (only without the kids - yet). Whose Line is it Anyway was good last night, but not as good as the English original, of which I have several old seasons in videotape. And I agree that Drew Carey is hilarious, but I'm sad that they've made Mimi such a major character - she's better in small doses.

The Emmy's are completely political and they aren't going to reward anyone that hasn't kissed executive butt. And we all know that Jerry didn't. Therefore, no kudos. But he shouldn't worry about it - he's loved my millions and his show will live on in syndication much like MASH has these past 20 years. The only difference being that I don't think Seinfeld will ever date itself like MASH has.

  If Jason Alexander doesn't win this year, then there is no question that the emmys are a joke. This man has never won, and it is a shame. When he was portraying George Costanza, he BECAME George Costanza. To me, his performances were some of the most memorable of the last decade.

Here's to seeing this extraordinary talent finally recognized...

skins could have been used, would have been to have Jerry chide George for a
lame attempt to rip off muffin tops-  if Alexander knows so much about writing,
he should have spotted this.)
   Anyway-  it was cowardly of Alexander to agree with bitter critics.  And
unforgivable and arrogant for him to slam his writers.
   Alexander has been superlative in his role on Seinfeld-  but he should fall
on his knees nightly and thank God that he fell into the orbit of the Seinfeld
writers,  creators,  cast,  directing  -and the resultant,  almost mystical
milieu.   I've seen Alexander in his other roles in film and t.v.  -and he has
plenty to be humble about.

First of all, SEINFeLD had a bad year. It's nomination is merely a token of thanks for what the series used to be. Jason Alexander, while a great actor, should never win an EMMY b/c while he is good, Richards is better, and you dont get an EMMY for 2nd best. Plus, Alexander had a crappy, overacted and just plain bad year. Did you see him in the first scenes of the finale? Are you seriously saying that is good acting?

I wholeheartedly disagree; look at all the other crap that was out there. Seinfeld was certainly in the top five shows even though I think some prior seasons were better. BUT, I still laughed more every week at Seinfeld than at any other sitcom. And, Randall, I agree with you. I thought Jason Alexander was fantastic. His battle at Play Now had some great scenes including George holed up in his office. Jason Alexander also wonderfully played the slant with him combining sex and food. There were some great episodes with Kruger Smoothing as George became the man there. I could go on...I think that Alexander is a multi-faceted talent and demonstrated some great acting this season. When compared to his rival talent on other shows Alexander stands higher. What about Richards, you asked? Michael is great--it could be a pick 'em but I think Alexander has the greater range based on his other activities. Both are serious actors and are at the top of the class. I would love to see George get a well- deserved emmy.

I tend to disagree with your statement that Alexander shouldn't win an Emmy. Every episode that involved George and Play Now or George and Kreuger I was ROTFL. I couldn't stop laughing at everything he went through. Plus, it was actually believable, like this stuff could actually happen to anyone. He seemed totally realistic in his acting and rarely overblown (not never, rarely).
