Who liked the final episode? I originally didn't like it, but I have seen it several times since it originally aired. The more I see it them more I agree with it's conclusion. It speaks volumes of where we are today as a society.

I really loved the part where all the past characters come in to testify especially Marla, The Soup Nazi and Babu.
I thought the ending could have been better, I mean Jerry giving a show to all his cellmates? I dunno.....

The way Kramer laughs during that Prison-show of Jerry is SO GOOD! It cracks me up everytime I see it.

I agree in that the first time viewing it, you don't appreciate all of the irony. I mean 9 years of watching this, we probably never realized how the main characters treated...or mistreated people, with no regard! The more I watch the final episode the more I laugh. Not sure if anyone else caught this, or has heard this before, but the final words spoken by Jerry to George about the button on his coat were the same words he said to George on the very first episode...the Seinfeld Chronicles...anyone else catch that?

Initially I wasn't completely satisfied with the finale, but after a comment my dad made, I came to see that it was in fact a perfect ending. Here were four people who for ~180 episodes have treated the world and each other with total contempt. I love them, but they are pathetic people, totally selfish, deceitful, etc. Finally, it all comes back and bites them on the bum. It's was an unusual way to go out, but i'm glad they did it that way. Very appropriate IMHO.

The funny part is that was the 1st time i watched seinfeld so i didn't like the final.Since then i have got hooked on the reruns and have about 160 episodes on tape.Now i think the finale was funny as hell with all the past members coming back....
A lot of the initial criticism was from people who never really got into Seinfeld but watched the Finale because it was so hyped. Of course they would be disappointed, they missed out of the frame of reference that the previous 179 episode would have given them.
I loved the Finale for two reasons.
First, they trucked in so many favorite old characters from days long gone. This was simply a gift for the real fans, not the "I just turned it on to see what the fuss was about" people. I mean, who remembered the pharmacists who sold Elaine the case of sponges, or the parking garage security guard who caught Jerry urinating in public? Who, at the time those episodes first aired, could have imagined the role these bit parters would play years later? And the way many of these characters got to interact with each other made it even better. Poppy asking for salt and being rebuffed by the Soup Nazi, the Seinfeld and Costanza parents praying along with the Rabbi, Keith Hernandez and Mickey Abbott shooting pool with Peterman, these were all memorable in their own right.
The 2nd reason was, as others have mentioned, closure. The idea of a final judgement, where these people who we've watched mistreat others for so many years finally get their comeuppance.
What I didn't care for was the flimsy plot device they used to get them in the courtroom situation in the first place. The 'Good Samaritan law' part made perfect sense, as laws like that were written specifically to prevent the type of behavior we'd all come to expect from the group anyway.But Kramer's jumping up and down to dislodge water from his ear was among the lamest devices they've ever resorted to. Even now when I rewatch the finale, I sort of ignore those scenes.
But they don't detract enough to make the episode less watchable. It'll always rank among the classics IMHO, with its historical significance giving it an added push towards the top of the list.
I agree with the idea that The Final was the best they could have done given the circumstances. I also agree that the Kramer jumping device was pretty lame. I also have problems with the premise of the arrest & the fact that Jackie Chiles did NOTHING as a lawyer. I understand it is only a sitcom but the legal ground they were arrested on and the testimony of these witness was VERY VERY shakey at best. A good lawyer could have easily gotten them off.

Oh, I got it: The finale stank, and btw I hate "Friends." For half of the show it took the main characters off to the side where they barely spoke a word for the last hour of the show. It brought back all those characters who riffed on them, but we already know how bad the 4 were... it was a glorified clip show. They even re-used jokes: Jackie Chiles saying "Oh, and they're real..." Uh, we heard that one before.
Originality is why people tune into "Seinfeld," not for re-hashes.

It's not easy. I've tried. It all keeps coming back to the Finale, as it was done, being the best way to bring an end to the show, with the trial being the perfect reason to write in all the old characters. (And forget about the logistics requires to get all these people together at the same time, that in itself must have been an incredible feat.)
The only alternative would have been to just film a normal run-of-the-mill episode that gave no nod whatsoever to the fact that it would be the last. As though their lives would just keep on going the way they were going, only the open window we used to look through to see them each week was now closed. But given how overpromoted the event would become, this was out of the question.
No I believe that, minor tweaks aside, we got the best final episode we could have gotten.

I'll have to watch it again but when I first saw it, I noticed that as they were panning the past people that were standing in the courtroom, that one or two of them didn't get a chance to say or see them in any other scene in the finale. Can't remember now who it was.
I believe you got it exacty the wrong way (no offense!). The entire show was about selfishness, about "me", "me", "me". They didn't even care about each other's problems. And that was the whole irony of that last silent hour... they were forced to (finally) shut up and listen about other people's problems, caused by them, and broadcasted on national TV! Now THAT was an ending :)

I 've just seen the final episode,I'm in Italy where the "finale2" has been aired today for the first time.I didn't appreciate that,I mean the cnbc reporter,Jerry's show in jail...I dunno I think it should have been better if they make the show in L.A,so we can't see them doing nothing in Ny(sorry for my english,I just want to share my opinions whith you guys)
