When Jerry and George are in Monks arguing at the table about the nyu reporter thinking that they are gay, and Jerry says to George to keep his voice down and George yells back "No, I will not keep my voice down", the owner comes over and tells them to keep quiet. Then he turne his head and that the ear ring in his ear, I thought it was something to just make you think, oh yeah, the stereotype about the ear ring in the left ear means you're gay.
But tonight I was watching the episode where Susan has just died, and Jerry is at Monks testing which cover story would get girls to go for him. At the table there are 3 women and the same owner from scene with the ear ring.
First of all, I don't think he's the owner. More like manager or head cook or something. Monk's appears to be a solid enough operation for the owner not to have to be there (unlike Babu Bhatt's culinary service ventures). If anyone ever seen there IS the owner, it's the cashier lady, and I actually doubt that as well.
Second, who the fuck cares if he's gay or not! What is the problem with you people? Along with those two Puerto-Rican thugs (who FWIW are gay, rather obviously, but sure can kick some ass) he is one of my favorite semi-regulars. I love the one where he just walks up to the table and the scene fades (or cuts or something).

And I for one, am not AT ALL a very PC person. Just honest. I've known many straight, gay, black, purple etc people and I hate most of them equally. Some I adore. To my own surprise, once after knowing someone for about 6 months, the subject of race came up (we worked for a reverse-racist). He said, "What do you think I am, a Caucasian Swede?" or something, I looked at him and realized he was black. Somewhat embarrassed, I mumbled "I never thought about it, frankly..."
Think what you want, it's a true story. But maybe I'm just schizophrenic or something.
On my first viewing of _The Outing_, I remember wondering the same thing (or perhaps the cafe manager was simply very well experienced with these sorts of boy spats). But later appearances in _The Wife_ and the mock focus group scene in _The Foundation_ seemed to downplay that angle.

Honestly, Chester, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of Usenet newsgroups that feature regular posters with racist, homophobic, anti-semitic, etc., views. As far as I've been able to tell over the years, alt.tv.seinfeld is not one of those newsgroups.
Perhaps others can refresh my memory, but I seem to recall the biggest controversies on the newsgroup being whether or not Susan's death was distasteful, or, if we're all just a bunch of nitwits for constantly quoting lines from the show.
No shit. Those (that) fussbudget practically killed this group, and it still hasn't recovered. Six months ago there were some really well done exchanges consisting of nothing but quotes.
I am well aware of the huge number of racist and anti-everything sites and groups and 4-d organization. There's more every day, like with everything else.
I was not NEARLY implying this group is ANYTHING like the them, just that picking out little details about some of the characters (I know we've all seen the episodes a dozen times so there's got to be something to do since we can barely listen to the dialogues anymore) can at times lead one into the gray waters of which I accused the OP (or one of the fuppers).
I'm just personally a little sensitive about certain things, having been tortured most of my HS days for being gay (which I'm not), thought by some as a Jew ( negatively) which I am not (just have a huge nose but it's not even of the Jewish kid) and having known enough blacks and gays to know many of them are actually nicer people than straights let alone stuck up WASP's (except for the rap "music". That is unexcusable). Many, of course, are unbearable. But so is almost everybody, in the final analysis.
I have only been visiting here for a few months, so I don't know the history. Susan's lousy acting as she keeled over was a little distasteful (not to mention one of the less-credible events in the show), but did ANYONE actually LIKE her? George no need to speak of, but she did also alienate the others and told them they were boring and useless (largely true, but that's what makes most the show fun, of course).
As for the quoting, it is kind of fun but also kind of stupid. Just my opinion. It would be less stupid if the quotes actually applied to the episode discussed. I made up my own quote for the hand-puppet comment. While possibly against the group charter (IF one even exists), I thought it was pretty funny.
