my wife and i have seen the episode with the missing library book several times now, and the character of mr. bookman, the library book investigator, simply destroys us every time we see him. sort of a twisted jack webb character. perhaps it's the way he flips out his index finger to make a point; he whips it out like a switchblade. maybe it's the way he never takes his raincoat off. maybe it's his deadly serious attempts to sound hip ("you and your good-time buddies, makin' the scene. Maybe that's how you get your kicks, stealing books!"). any way you slice it, the character and the actor are terrific. we'd like to see more of him, although i doubt there is any use of his talents as fine as the missing book episode.
