I was watching a tape of Jay Leno's five years anniversary show with Jerry Seinfeld on it, from several months ago. Jerry came on promoting a book he wrote the forewords to. "Well, this is not my book. This is a friend of mine book". While over his friend house, watching a Jerry Lewis Telethon..."I found these letters in his house which he didn't write, and I don't really know who wrote them". "And I took the letters to my literary agent, and I asked if maybe we could make it into a book." "Because I thought they were very funny." "I never met the guy, but I did get his letters". He held up the book-'Letters from a Nut', by Ted L. Nancy (?) It's a collection of letters this 'nut' sent to various companies, groups, and organizations. Plus the replies to his letters.

Something smells very fishy in Burbank, like the time that gal that plays the Nanny came on recently with her phony cut finger story. I think Jerry just does want to put his name as the author to a collection of second class, and boring stories that will bomb.

He has copies of all of the letters the 'nut' wrote, with the replies from the companies. And none of them have the name or address of the 'nut'? And Jerry and his literary agent have a book published without the permission of the 'nut'? Really Jerry....come on now....you expect us to believe these tall tales....... Something George or Kramer or Newman would hatch on the show...but now you put yourself in a lying postion in real life.

I think Jerry is really the nut for thinking that we would fall for such a supid story.

It not enough to make a million dollars a show. But he has to peddle second class literary crap, lying about it too.

DISGUSTED!

I saw a Jerry push this book on Larry King Live, but he had permission from the nut to put it out and the nut is getting money for it. Jerry said he thought it was just too funny not to get out to the public, and without their push it never would.

It sounds like the book in question is "The Laszlo Letters", by Don Novello, aka Father Guido Sarducci. He wrote a bunch of letters asking stupid and/or inane questions to corporations and politicians under the pseudonym "Laszlo Toth" and printed the very serious replies that came back.

My husband was given a copy of the book for his birthday. I think Jerry wrote the letters, but I also think they were pretty funny. The letter writer would write hotels and ask them if he could bring his own chair or mattress with him and go into all this detail about how he would bring it up to the room, etc. Then the hotel would write this nice little letter back saying why he couldn't or even funnier, agree! One letter sounds like a Senfeld episode (The Elaine mannequin) which makes it pretty suspicious to me--he writes a store and wants to buy a mannequin that looks just like his recently deceased neighbor.

I recall Jerry on Jay Leno talking about the book. He made it sound like he came across the letters a long time ago, and used to read them to friends at parties, then finally decided to have them published because they made his friends laugh so much. Anyway, depending on the time frame, he may have gotten the Elaine/mannequin idea from the letters, not the other way around.

Besides, I bought and read the book. it's comical, but it certainly doesn't sound like Jerry's humor. [email] (Hammer nail here--> <-- for a new monitor.)
