Suicide Damages

He never gets a penny. Interesting that he didn't really pursue it beyond the meeting with Mrs. Sweedler (the Hospital Administrator), because this is one case where I think George was 100% right. Regardless of the circumstances, if one of the patients entrusted to a hospital's care causes accidental damage to another's property, either the patient or the hospital should be responsible and, since the patient was deceased, the hospital should pay. Unless the parking spot itself was not hospital property, but city property. Then they could easily pawn him off on 'City Hall' and be done with him.

When the "damage" isn't to oneself, it pretty much comes out of your own pocket even if completely not your fault. That's why we have auto insurance. I would have agreed with you last week but last Friday I was driving home from work through a construction zone when one of the workers decides to turn around blindly and walk across the road. The problem was I happened to be driving along side him at the time and he walked directly into the side of my car. If you knew me personally you'd know that I felt as bad about damage to my car as I would have to my son. In other words I worship my Cherokee (sob,sob). Anyway, guess who is paying the $975 to replace my fender. Sure I could go to court and get the $500 deductible back from the construction company but it would cost $2000 to go to court so you just accept that life sucks and shell out.......On the other hand if my bloody insurance company tries to hike my rates they will find themselves in court no matter what the cost. It's the principle. There were four cops who saw the whole thing, one might wonder why they were standing around talking instead of directing traffic, and they all said it was the other guy who was wrong......

I don't think the hospital should pay for damages unless a hospital employee pushed him out of the window. Maybe they should use whatever money the dead guy had to help pay for the damages since he was at fault.

I used to work in the Risk Management Dept. of a hospital and believe me, if the incident was on hospital property, they paid. So if George was legally parked on hospital property, he should have been paid. If he was illegally parked just to get that "great space", then that was on him.
