A Memorable Ending, to say the least

This will not go down as the funniest episode or even the best episode, but the way they handled the closure with the four of them sitting in the prison, had an eerie quality that made me realize the true nature of the show. It was a drama disguised as a comedy, a drama about all the things that bug us in life, which when openly discussed becomes funny. I know it all ended on a very depressing note, but that whole de' ja vu thing with the button on the shirt really was quite thought provoking. I didn't much care for the ending credits at all however, after that sentimental scene in the jail cell, I didn't want to see Jerry bomb in front of a group of criminals, that just totally disrupted the emotional quality of the ending. All in all, this is probably the second best final episode to a TV series I have seen. With the best being Star Trek: The Next Generation. I think with Seinfeld being gone, once The Simpsons gets canceled there won't be much left to live for.

I didn't much care for the ending credits at all

there has NEVER before this, been an emotional episode (scene?) in Seinfeld, which is one of the reasons why it ruled. one of the ONLY good parts was the final jail scene. if you want unfunny emotional SHIT go watch "Touched By An Angel".

I agree with you. That closing scene with them in the cell not saying much to each other was disturbing. After nine years of friendship, these four seemed perfect strangers to each other. I think the whole question is "Do we really know our closest friends and do we even know our true selves?".

What makes you say The Simpsons is gonna get cancelled? Sure its not getting the ratings Seinfeld did, but competition is very tough on Sundays and its the 4th highest rated Fox show, and its in the top-30 overall.

I don't think he means it will be cancelled in the near future, but, like most TV shows, will eventually go off the air.

About the drama disguised as a comedy -- I couldn't disagree more. The best thing about Seinfeld to me was the way absolutely nothing was sacred or solemn. They never once took anything seriously, not even George's fiancee dying! A sappy ending would have contradicted the entire show.
