In tonight's episode Jerry says he maxed out his credit cards.
I think it's funny that he's a spokesman for American Express, which I believe has no credit limit.

American Express has no pre-established credit limit. That does not mean that if you want to charge the Empire State Building to your card they will say okay. In fact, they have internal credit guidelines for your card, and if you violate them, a notation will pop up and they will want to speak with you. they claim that if there is an unusual purchase it is for your own protection that they will question it.
The character jerry seinfeld has credit limits. the real Jerry Seinfeld does not.

Actually, it was Jerry's parents who were the dumb ones. The statement in the show (when Jerry was haggling over the price) that the book value of the car was $22,000 is not that far off.
BTW, I heard the line that the $22,000 price price was quoted from "Kelly's Green Book" or some such thing. This is a reference to the "Blue Book", a commonly-quoted used-car price guide. If I heard the name correctly (I don't tape the show), the name I heard, "Kelly's Green Book", is a joke in itself.

Your spending limit is set by your spending patterns. A friend of mine (who has a pristine credit history... or at least much better than mine) tried to buy the same computer hardware that I had bought the day before. We both used American Express cards. His charge was declined because, although he paid his bills regularly, he had never made a purchase of more than $100.00 at a time. The declined amount was too far outside that of his normal spending pattern.
To further his anger, they required his bank to fax a current balance statement in order to allow the approval. It was easier for him to open a credit card account at the store and buy the equipment.
It's happened to other conscientious Amex holders I know.
