Newman Triumphant???

What perverse vision is this; this postal miscreant laughing like an avenging demon-god at the guilty verdict? Not an image I wanted to leave the show with!

Was I seeing things, and did Newman, in mid-laugh, start choking on his popcorn? I almost saw this unfolding: Newman silently gags and flails; the whole gang descends on him and administers a group heimlich, the judge reconsiders the verdict, and warm hugs and 'Awwwww!'s all around.

Now *that* would've been scary. Probably it would be more like the gang standing around, watching him flopping on the floor like a docked fish, and exchanging snide comments.

I was kind of waiting for him to die right there, with all the other bit players just standing around watching... then everyone ELSE gets arrested on a "Good Samaritan" violation, and winds up in the pokey with the main four...

Jeez! Not bad! Why couldn't they have just filmed it like the movie "Clue" and given us several endings to choose from?

They could have spent the first 45 minutes setting up the trial, then hit us all with a choose-your-own adventure ending.

1. They are sentenced to be Newman's butler 2. The trial was a dream; they crashed and they're stuck together on an island 3. The ending we saw 4. They're acquitted, but they lose their jobs (and chances at a pilot)
