I was thinking about it, and I believe Seinfeld was so unique and funny of a show namely because it was never serious. It certainly had serious-enough topics now and then: pregnancy scare, marital infidelity, proposals, deaths, and jail sentences...but none were ever serious in nature. And you had your basic characters: The sensible (winner by default) leader, the incompetent "loser" of the group, the chic, and the wacky neighbor. But the characters didn't get the usual storylines. We never saw the emotional side of any of them (Okay, the one where Jerry gets emotional and cries doesn't quite count). In other words, the show never ended quietly in thought. Now to get to the point... I've tried to think of other shows that follow suit and can't think of any. Friends is close, but it certainly has its serious moments. As did Cheers, Larry Sanders, etc. Other than News Radio, which I only recently began watching and cannot judge, can I think of a show with on-going characters that never stop being funny. How about it? Can you all think of another show like this? Sketch comedies don't count! Jeremy

Who, having watched the show, will ever forget Larry, Darryll and Darryll, Miss Stephanie and Michael (who in one episode had lost everything from A to Z car).
Unhappily Ever After on the WB , its actually very funny if you watch it, it reminds me a lot of Married with Children
Me too. A little too much. It's MWC with a stuffed bunny.

-----------------------------------------------------------------I haven't caught Unhappily, but Married with Children is one I hadn't thought of. I'm going to try to catch Just Shoot Me as well. I have to admit other than Friends, I really don't watch much other than Seinfeld and Newsradio re-runs. I got really tired of sitcoms having the same little serious teach-a-lesson storylines that just take away from the comedy. I know I'm contradicting myself since I just stated the fact that I watch Friends. Exceptions to every rule I suppose. Jeremy
