Fans debate whether Jerry's "idiot" remark in an American Express commercial was directed at Superman or the taxi driver, with disagreement over whether the comment was meant to be subtle or obvious.

I just seen the new Am. Xpress commercial with Seinfeld and Superman. I have a question? Does Sienfeld call Superman or the taxi driver an idiot?

I think the remark was intended for Superman because this way its funnier. What do you think????

Yeah but Seinfeld said the word 'Idiot' extremely descreetly. It was said in a matter not meant to be heard by Superman. Sure Superman has super sonic hearing its just a commercial.

I think that if Jerry would have made the remark to the driver of the car he would have yelled. Man the guy is in in Metropolis (or it could be NY) for crying out loud.

     I think he actually says "idiots", which means both the
driver in the '55 Studebaker AND Superman...and that's
matched by Superman's aside to the store owner while Jerry's doing his spinning
routine that "he idolizes me...it's embarras-
sing."
     When you think about it, the combination of camaraderie
and mutual put-down between Jerry and Superman is exactly
the same relationship that Jerry has with the rest of his TV
friends (and apparently his real-life ones too...) Commercial
imitating art imitating life; amazing...

One more thing...isn't it fascinating, how Superman is drawn to look like David Puddy and how remarkably sim- ilar their voices are? Is that Patrick Warburton doing Superman's voice in the commercial?
