5/16 Episode

This was the worst season ending, if not the worst episode, of any comedy I've ever seen. First, a joke was made about Susan possibly dying in a plane crash. Hey writers, ever heard of ValuJet? Really poor taste.

Then, Susan DOES die. OK, we all know George wanted out of the whole thing, but death by toxic glue from the wedding invitations? While I see the irony, couldn't they come up with a funny way to get rid of her?

I'm not sure if the regular writing team was locked in a closet somewhere, but if so, let them out soon!

Oh my God! Susan is dead? I thought that post was a joke. And George didn't even give a damn? That was very unrealistic. I mean I know he didn't want to get married, but to not even show any sorrow? Come on now. The episode was still funny, especially the re-enactment of Jerry sitting on the park bench just like George did. Then George calling Marisa Tomei at the end. That was funny.

I have to agree -- this is a fictional show, and Susan wasn't that great a character, but this is a sitcom, and it was a pretty lame way for the writers to get rid of Susan.

Come to think of it, George might have done in the Bubble Boy as well--we never heard what happened to the B.B. Cheers, Steve

Do you think maybe they were doing a parody of all of the other TV show's very dramatic season finales where characters die or are in limbo until next season. Think about it. This is a great show and they love to poke fun at everything.

Yeah! Maybe It's only a dream!!! Like in "Dallas" and George will wake up next season with Susan still in his bed!!!! Anyway, anything can happen it's T.V.!

I thought that George's rather muted reaction was a wash between feelings of relief ("out of the marriage") and guilt ("indirectly responsible for buying the cheapo invitations"). In the latter case, we have seen George be self conscious about his remark causing the Bus Boy to be fired and his "not good enough for you" comment being the catalyst for that couple's separation in The WaitOut.

Granted, the timing was lousy, but this episode was filmed at least (approximately) two weeks before the ValuJet tragedy.

As we've seen in previous episodes, the writers of Seinfeld have already done some "coincedence writing", or "clairvoyance writing". E.g., Elaine wanting her boyfriend, who shared the same name with a serial killer, to change his first name to O.J., previous to the infamous O.J. Simpson ordeal.

As far as it being "the worst season ending, if not the worst episode, of any comedy I've ever seen.", I wouldn't go that far, but fortunately we are in a forum where we can "voice" our opinions.

Personally, I laughed out loud at Jerry when he was realizing, at first, that he was looking for someone like himself all along, and then later, when he realized he couldn't stand being with "himself".
