Michael Richards' Emmy

Has Michael Richards ever won an Emmy for his portrayal of Kramer? Does anyone remember him on Fridays? I remember the brawl they had with the late, great Andy Kaufman.

Michael Richards has won TWO Best Supporting Actor Emmys for portraying Kramer. I believe the first came in 1992.

In a way, it's unfortunate that both he and Jason Alexander have to compete in the same category, because Jason has never had his fine work recognized by the ATAS. Kramer is the "flashier" character and hence gets most of the attention, but Alexander's portrayal of George is full of subtle nuances.

Also, the deignation of "supporting" doesn't really apply in either Richards' or Alexander's case. Since "Seinfeld" is such an ensemble effort, each character is really the "star" of his/her own show. The only reason Jerry is considered the "lead" is that the series is named after him. In most episodes, he serves much the same function that Alex Rieger (Judd Hirsch) served in "Taxi"--the "glue" that holds everything together. Hirsch was nominally "Taxi's" star...a case could also be made for Danny DeVito and even Christopher Lloyd.
