Fans clarify that Elaine's father Alton Benes was played by Lawrence Tierney, not Steven Hill who appeared in T.D. Waterhouse commercials and Law & Order.

The guy in the commercial is Steven Hill, who played the DA on Law & Order, the one that always wanted to plea bargain every case. He also was the lead IMF agent in the first season of Mission: Impossible. http://us.imdb.com/Name?Hill,+Steven+(I)

That's right, he was the crime boss who set up the jewel robbery. The humor in that movie was very Seinfeldian, especially in the scene where Steve Buscemi is complaining about being called Mr. Pink, and in the coffee shop where these cold-blooded killers talk about the ethics of leaving tips to underpaid waitresses.
