To me the bizarre Seinfeld world was topmarks. But, then again, two other ones because of Costanza's performance, were also very good: a) the dangerous George where at the end his phater fight with Elaine b) the one that George drives Susans parents to his fake house in the Hampton's

Would be glad to hear your opinions

A tough call because you can't make a list on this topic without leaving some great episodes out. But here goes...

#1) The Soup Nazi - you can't go wrong when you start with Newman scampering away after saying "Jambalya", guy street tuffs, Susan, stupid nicknames (schmoopie) Larry - big man at Monk's (watch him the next you see George & Susan try to "out- silly" Jerry and his girlfriend--you'll die!) Elaine agreeing that Jerry made the right choice picking soup over a woman, Kramer walking into Jerry's apartment and swiping one of the couch cushions without saying a word, Banya, Elaine baning on the soup nazi's counter and going, "Whoahh, Whoahh!" and a rude new yorker. This is the unlimate formula for Funny television.

Other greats...

"The Christmas Card" - Elaine exposing his nipple on a Christmas card- everyone woman's worst nightmare. Great comedy.

"The Bubble Boy" - George and Susan puncturing this obnoxious "boy's/man's" bubble over a stupid game of trivial pursuit.

"Jimmy" - This one still makes me laugh out loud, especially at the end when Kramer keeps making faces while Mel Torme is singing.

"The Red Dot" - I love this one for George's confrontation and rationalization to Lipman about the legitimacy of having sex with the cleaning lady on his desk.

"Good Naked vs Bad Naked" - I love Elaine's description of the male body and Jerry appearing like a caveman.

"The Opposite" - Great all the way through but especially, George impressing the beautiful blonde in Monk's be saying he's unemployed and lives with his parents and Elaine turning into George.

"Shrinkage" - Another great combination: an ugly baby, trying to explain shrinkage to a woman, a topless woman and Elaine trying to attract a doctor.

I know there a lot's more but these always make me laugh the hardest.

I could have just as easily have gone with any episodes that contain George Steinbrenner.

Try "The Pick"

I forgot the title, but that's not it...

A.K.A. "The Hamptons"

Right, of course...with the Sex, Lies, And Videotape guy...and Kramer's shower, I don't want to say thing, but well...cooking in the show is just wrong...

Oh really?

My favorite is " The Library", featuring an amazing performance by Philip Baker Hall as the library cop. In his scenes, Jerry seems to have a very hard time keeping a straight face.

Trace

This idea of Jerry not being able to keep a straight face MIGHT have been part of the script.I know Jerry has not been portrayed as a very good actor, but considering this situation he might have been told to almost crack up in certain scenes. Here's this library officer named Joe Bookman, who has hunted Jerry down for a 20 year old library book and acts like he's captured public enemy number 1! Jerry TRIED to be respectful, but this guy was just obsessed. I feel that the character, JERRY, felt the same way we did when we watched the scene- THIS GUY IS NUTS & thus was almost laughing & in fact did laugh a few times.

Yeah, that was a classic. Here's my two favorite: don't know the official names

1. DEATH BLOW, the same episode where Elaine [address] Cry Again....hehe 2. The episoed where Mickey and Kramer pickup 2 women from the GAP....same episode where DR. Watley converts to Judaism just for the jokes....

my 2 favorites were:

1) the one where George has to pretend to be a marine biologist and rescues a whale that Kramer hit a golf ball into. George's speech at the end is a killer

2) the backwards one in the last season... where they end up in India. I thought that was a nice twist.

I think that my favourite is either The Boyfriend or the Jacket. Both crack me consistently up. The Junior Mint is another classic.

In fact, it would be easier to pick out the episodes which I don't like!

All the best, Philip

The Boyfriend (full hour long version) was my favorite episode...it was just chuck full of comedy...a truley great hour of television history...

Luther ZevenbergenJoemovie

I have a lot of favorite episodes. But the best one for me is the one that George and Jerry come up with their idea about a show about nothing and tried to get it on NBC. Because is awfully funny and at the same time it's the essence of the whole series. Joemovie heeft geschreven in bericht ...

Was watching 'The Cigar Store Indian' last night, and as usual we were puzzling over the smell of the Costanza household... what on earth is 'kasha' (sp?)?? It obviously doesn't exist in Britain, we've never heard of it. Of what does it smell? Surely not dandruff!

Thanks,

Jane

Daveruth

I beg to differ.

Kasha is basically hulled, crushed buckwheat kernels. Buckwheat is just another grain, like oats or wheat, but with an earthier, nuttier flavor. When prepared properly, it's absolutely delicious. My grandmother used to make the best kasha. She would add sauteed onions and bowtie pasta, and I'll tell you this. It was always the first empty bowl at any family holiday gathering.

To reiterate:

Not like rice. Not disgusting.

I assume the comment about the Costanza house smelling like kasha was meant to imply that it smelled like a place where elderly Jewish people lived. I'm not sure about the Ray Coniff singers, though. I don't recall my nana ever listening to them. But she does have pictures of me all over her apartment. :)

Thanks Dave - my mind is rested. But watching more old tapes brought more questions... what is a 'gyro'? I saw these advertised outside a Greek restaurant in Amsterdam but am none the wiser. What about the cake known as 'babka'? And what the hell are 'jujee fruits'? Honestly, it's another world out there. I know this means a holiday in the states is in order, just to figure out the weird food.

Jane

a gyro is some kind of lamb and beef served on a pita with some kind of sour cream sauce....maybe tomato and onion too....there really good

DaveJane Ardley

It's basically roasted lamb meat and vegetables and sauce made out of yogurt or cucumbers or something all rolled into a slice of pita bread. I don't care for them.

I won't even begin to tell you what babka is. Do yourself a favor. Go into any bakery and ask if they have it. Bring it home, lock the door, take the phone off the hook, disconnect your PC and open the box.

Read this article. It's pretty funny because it's written by a gummi bear afficionado who looks down his nose at Jujyfruits. http://www.dallasobserver.com/extra/gummi/jujy.html

When it comes to junk food, we can't be beat. :)

Isn't a gyro like a grinder? But how did they come up with such a riske sounding name for a sandwich?
