But really-- Summer?! It's too hot! In the Fall you've got cooler weather, the leaves are changing, it's not as humid and there are fewer mosquitos... :-)

IMO: They had some of their peak episodes in season 4 but season 5 was more consistent. No other shows have had as many "classic" episodes in their entire run as S had in season 5. Again, IMO. Season 6 wasn't exactly chopped chicken liver either.

LD was at the helm or somewhere in the vicinity of the helm from the beginning through to the end of season 7: the episode where Susan dies from licking something toxic.

That's exactly why-- empty laughs-- just more yucks, stupider jokes that went for bigger laughs.

In season 9, in particular, they were really straining for laughs and much of the magic was gone; so much of the humor fell flat, IMO. An example would be that episode where they were doing the "helloooooo..." bit. That was just annoying. Also the girlfriend who was injured in a mysterious tractor accident. Ugh. They were really losing it in season 9. Silly is okay, IMO, if it produces laughs. A lot of the Kramer humor from earlier seasons had been silly slapstick but it was about the best slapstick as I've ever seen (eg "The Sniffing Accountant") because it was based on funny premises. The sillier humor gets, though, the more subjective the reactions.

One compounding problem though was that I started posting and reading this NewsGroup during season 9 and every episode was greeted with a jeers and negativity, as is the wont of Usenet groups. It served as kind of an anti-laugh track. There was one guy who worked in a bank in AZ who was really irritating in his broken-record critiques. I doubt if I would have enjoyed season 9 much w/o posters raining on the PR Day Parade, for instance, but it didn't help.

But it's funny, since "Seinfeld" reached some of their peak moments in season 4 (eg "The Contest" and "The Outing") I knew it couldn't last and that the show would start to decline. That they produced as many classic episodes as they did for as long as they did (IMO the last classic episode would be "The Little Kicks" in season 8) is nothing short of... spectacular!

Yes, but in that same episode George says something like:

"They want to play dirty, ... well nothing's dirtier than a giant ball of oil"

I also liked the helloooooo bit -- even though it was "So Played" (Kramer)
