This isn't Kansas Toto, and the meal was not a Kosher meal, it was a serving of Kasha. Its a god-awful grain thing - yeuck stuff. But nonetheless it would lend credence to the suspicion that George's mom might be Jewish and made Kasha for the family. I don't think you have to be Jewish to eat it but God knows why anyone else would. Horrors of my Youth.
Wait a minute; 'Splain something to me... I have never heard of the word Kasha as you describe it. However, I have purchased some very hearty mass produced cereal-type stuff called Kashi. Since they are so similar I assume that Kashi is a mass produced form of Kasha. Correct?
When I heard Frank say the word it sounded familiar to me but I wasn't sure what he was referring to. And by the way - I LOVE Kashi!!

Kasha is made from buckwheat groats; crushed grains kind of like oats. You could probably make kasha cookies in much the same way as oatmeal is used. Anyway, it is a very good sign of Jewish influence. Most likely, Estelle's side of the family. Kasha is traditionally mixed with bowtie pasta and served hot. The kasha/pasta dish is called Kasha Varnishkes and tasted pretty damned good. Always a big bowl of it at the table for every holiday. Mmmmmmm!
Kashi is this cereal that they sell at the supermarket (i.e. Publix) It comes in a pink box and has a blue sky with clouds on the box with a bowl of cereal.
It's consisted of like oatmeal and raisins, and its quite good.

George is obviously Jewish, he and Jerry are always talking about Jewish refrencese such as matza ball soup, kasha, shicksa, etc.
Jerry is obviously Jewish too (I think the last name is a pretty good clue).

What makes you think Kramer is Italian? The surname is definitely not Italian. Don't recall any other clues that might suggest Italian parentage. They have the best knishes I've ever tasted and my mother and grandmother agree with me.(the store has been in operation for many years.) Unfortunately I don't live in Queens anymore so delivery to Florida is probably out of the question :(
