Sure this has been poster MANY times before but the name of the actual diner is "Tom's Restauraunt" and although the show's sign says just "Restaurant", I assure you the sign in real life says "Tom's Restaurant". It is on Broadway and (around) 112th near Columbia University. Having lived in that area, I've been there several times (yes, even BEFORE it was shown on Seinfeld). It is nothing like Monks (which is shot in the studio) - Tom's is a typical New York greasy spoon diner with far less room than Monk's. Just revisited it the other day and had a $1 Vanilla Egg Cream - Heavenly! It's pretty cute - they have a large Seinfeld picture of the four characters autographed hanging by the register. Jerry

In the show its called Monks in real life its called Tom's Restaurant. thats why you only see restaurant. A large neon TOMS would look a little strange.
I think the sign DOES say Toms Restaurant.but they hav the camera angled so you dont see the Tom's

OK. We know where the coffee shop and the Soup Nazi are. Now, I need to find out where the All in the Family newsgroup is because I need to find out where the house in the opening sequence is found. I have tried all kinds of combinations alt.tv.all-in-the-family alt.tv.all-in-family. Nothing seems to work. Could anyone help me out here? Pleas e-mail. And many apologies for an inappropriate post.

Actually, I live in Astoria, have walked all over this neighborhood, and have never found any part of it to look **exactly** like the opening sequence of All in the Family. There certainly are houses that are similar to it, but I'm sure it is not Astoria.
They were definitely built right after World War II, which is when Queens boomed with developments like that. I am about 75% sureit is Queens, though I can't be sure.
I seem to remember in only one of the shows they mentioned that they lived in Flushing, but I could very well be wrong. I wonder if this development is inFlushing? I cannnot find a newsgroup dedicated to AITF; nor have i found a Web site that can tell me. Oh well. I'll just keep looking...
