I am intrigued at the arguements (and the resolve with which they are
argued) re: the final episode of Seinfeld. I personally found it funny.
Although crass, George's (Jason Alexander, I should say) facial
expressions were priceless as he struggled between the proper sorrow and
his joy within at being "Out, baby!" (you could tell deep inside he longed
to say that - give the writers some credit, they could have written a much
more callous scene). Similairly, the other three were trying to read
George's mood for their own reaction. Whether or not you thought it was
in good taste, it was well performed.
Amidst all this debate about whether it was out of character for the
main four, no one has brought up a topic I've been thinking about all
season - How SUSAN has been out of character much of the season.
Originally, Susan was a much sweeter character (you have to be to tolerate
George). But this season (aside from the tender moment of the two watching
Mad About You earlier this season), she's been uncharacteristically mean.
Some examples:
1)She torments George about his personal bank card number
2)She harshly criticizes Elaine and Jerry for talking endlessly about
nothing
3)She's angry at George re:her friends gift to them
4)She's very unreasonable throughout the ugly doll episode
5)She's totally unreasonable about his side of the wedding party
6)She mocks him when he brings up the Pre-Nup Is this the same Susan who helped bend Russel's ear in favor of Jerry
and George's pilot, who enjoyed an opera with the gang and who, takes
George back happily after he costs her the NBC job (of course, this was
before "The Pick") . Isn't it odd how now this season she's sarcastic and
inflexible?!?
Perhaps, though, Susan has changed over time - It may not be easy to
stay sweet when you lose both your job AND your lesbian lover and find out
your father's had an erotic affair with John Cheever. Maybe Susan can't be
