I AM WORKING ON A PAPER WHICH PURPORTS TO PINPOINT THE REASONS WHICH MAKE SEINFELD DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER SITCOMS OVER THE PAST DECADE.

Dont forget that like the Simpsons, Seinfeld points out the little idiosyncracies of American life. Seinfeld isn't afraid to tell things like they are. The show revolves around four self centered and unstable people who, though claim to be independent, cannot live without each other. This show captures what it is to live here. I guess that this comment would compliment reason no. 1 from above.

As has been pointed out continually, people die on Seinfeld. Not just Susan, the most recent and worst example, but several others from whom considerably more humor was successfully milked (because they were less developed as human beings on the series).
I think that no other sitcom has a body count like Seinfeld's.
Death in Seinfeld:
Manya, Peterman's mother, Jerry's friend Fulton, Russel Dalrymple, Susan, Gary Fogel (not seen - only referred to).
