Seinfeld Olympic Moments

There's been a lot of talk lately about the Seinfeld Olympic moments on the Seinfeld mailing list, so I thought I would cross post this to this group. Basically were looking to make a complete list of all of the moments.

Here's what I know of so far. I pulled most of the descriptions from previous posts and email sent to me. They are in no particular order and include approximate air dates. Feel free to embellish the descriptions.

Moment #1 (aired night 7/22 and night 7/23) An NBC Olympic promo set in Jerry and gang's favorite coffee shop. Jerry and George were giving the olympic torch runner conflicting directions through NYC. It occurred between the one commercial break in the middle of Seinfeld.

Moment #2 (aired night 7/25) Set in Jerry's apartment, with Jerry talking to Elaine on the phone about someone coming over to look at the trouble with his oven. "I think the pilot light went out", then the guy with the torch shows up and lights it up.

Moment #3 (aired night 7/25) The other one has Jerry and George talking in the coffee shop. The torch guy runs in, picks up a bag and leaves. George asks "aren't you supposed to tip on take out orders?". Jerry just says something like "When you're carrying a torch?".

Moment #4 (aired morning 7/27) The phone in Jerry's apartment rings while he's unlocking his door and it's a guy from a radio station leaving him a message telling him that he,Jerry, just missed a trip to Barcelona. When Jerry finally walks in,the radio guy already hung up. Jerry picks up the receiver and goes "Hello Hello Hello ....".

Moment #5 (unknown air time) George and Jerry are in the cafe, and they're talking about the gymnasts.

Moment #6 (aired night 7/27) George and Jerry in the middle of a conversation. Let's listen in: Jerry: "I'm telling you. Its an actual dive now." George: "He messed up and hit his head on the springboard!" Jerry: "Yeah, but the skill involved gives it the highest difficulty of all dives - it's called the Greg Louganis - half-gainer - no-brainer!"

Moment #7 (aired night 7/27) Kramer in the Cafe and tries to show off his olympic gymnastics talent and grace, and ens up falling over and taking some tables in the room with him. One of those "only Kramer could do it and make it funny" moments....

So far, I've got 2,3 and 7 on tape and I'll be looking for more.

There were also

a George and Jerry at the coffee shop one. George exclaims about the 13 yr old Chinese diver, how he at 13 was running through a sprinkler with an inner tube. Jerry considers this. After about a standing 8 he says something like "women mature sooner than men" and resumes reading his paper.

another G&J ATCS: Why is it that only athletes get nicknames? Karl "Mailman" Malone? Wouldn't it be neat if, say, authors got nicknames? Leo "Prime Time" Tolstoy Judith "In Your Face" Krantz

Jeff, do you remember when you saw this one? The reason I ask is because someone on the Seinfeld mailing list who originally noted :

now thinks that one she was thinking of (#5) was actually about the one you mention above (13 yr old gymnast, women mature faster than men).

How classic! Wish I had seen that one...

Not to be picky here but the timing was; George talks about the 13 year old, Jerry comes back quick with the mature thing, then the standing 8 while George looks at Jerry like.... well you know George.

Mailing list?! Where??? Haven't seen it mentioned here, and would like to be added.

Another one last night, or the night before, that I only caught part of: Guy from Unsolved Mysteries (Robert Stack?) in Seinfeld's apartment remarking on the disappearance of four NYC residents. Seinfeld returns with groceries in hand, says they haven't disappeared and will follow his show after the Olympics. Seinfeld also addresses him as Bob (?), and at the end is asked, "Did you call me Bob?"

As I mentioned, I only caught part of this, since I had to scramble to un-mute the tv from the previous commercials.

Yes it was great. Stack say's something about "Another mystery solved" And Seinfield calls him Bob. Stack looks over and says "Did you call me Bob?" I don't think I have ever heard Robert Stack called anything but Robert.

Specifically, he was describing the "iron cross", something one does on the rings. Y'know, that's where you're upright and suspending yourself on the rings with your arms horizontal, so you look like a cross. Need lotsa strength to do that. Kramer demonstrated it beautifully, down to the constant trembling of the gymnast as he struggles to maintain his leverage-disadvantaged position. That alone was funny.
