The Chinese Connection

I don't know if there is expert sociologist or the closest thing in this newgroup but I see something unusual in NBC line-ups that other shows in other network totally lack, Chinese characters. Although mostly peripheral, it is significant compared to other networks which feature none at all. Decidedly (still whitewashed) Jewish shows like SEINFELD, SINGLE GUY or MAD ABOUT YOU feature Asians or Asian themes in a way that are sometimes rather unexpected. In one SEINFELD episode, Jerry ask the metaphysical:"We always listen to the Chinese" (the one where a white woman has an affinity for Chinese culture and advises George's mother), or that Chinese delivery guy who has no qualms abt using Jerry's long distance service, or one funny early episode abt waiting in Chinese restaurant. are there somekind of cultural connection between the Jewish and Chinese culture? Asian stars like Margaret Cho and Ming Wa Nen show affinity for Jewish men in public interviews. Of course, they are the execs who get them the all-important spots :-)

That line is from one of my favorite episodes named "The Chinese Woman" (Donna Chang). A more memorable line from that episode was when she was calling to make dinner reservations and Jerry was having problems with his phone:

Jerry: Were you able to get thru to the restaurant? Donna: No, they haven't fixed the phone. This is really getting ridicuRous.

I laughed a whole week over that one line!
